This version of MimeCheck in tended to be run by typing in an URL you want to check into your browser’s command line like this. For example to test the MIME types being sent by http://java.sun.com/im/a.gif you would type:

http://mindprod.com/applet/urlcheck.html?url=http://java.sun.com/im/a.gif

If you have trouble, use the amananuensis version or see the technical notes on MIME. If you want to send such an URL to someone to complain about their MIME types, you could abbreviate it with TinyURL.

download MimeCheck Java source and compiled class files to run on your own machine as an application or Applet.

First install the most recent Java.

To install, extract the zip download with WinZip, (or similar unzip utility) into any directory you please, often J:\ — ticking off the “user folder names” option.

To check out the corresponding source from the Subversion repository, use the TortoiseSVN repo-browser to
access mimecheck source in repository with [Tortoise] Subversion client on wush.net/svn/mindprod/com/mindprod/mimecheck/.

After you have installed the jar, you can run it as an application. Type:

java -jar J:\com\mindprod\mimecheck\mimecheck.jar

adjusting as necessary to account for where the jar file is.
