Anti-euthanasia folk call for palliative sedation for dealing with end-of-life pain. The idea is to zonk people out on morphine until they die. I object to this treatment on three grounds:
- I had morphine for a kidney stone. It did almost nothing for the pain.
- Morphine was like an endless nightmare I could not wake up from, highly unpleasant, almost as bad as the pain it was supposed to treat.
- Dying like a vegetable is the ultimate indignity.
Damned if I will submit to palliative sedation just to humour the religious superstitions of someone for whom I have infinite contempt.~ Roedy (1948-02-04 age:70)
