There are Jews who act like Nazis (the Mossad, Netten-yahoo), but that doesn’t make them all bad.

It is a giant superstition and con game, a huge bald-faced lie, and as such deserves on general principles to be opposed, even if parts of it are gay-neutral or gay-friendly.

Try reading any of Tom Harpur’s books, visit Robert Truluck’s website (http://www.truluck.com) or visit Religious Tolerance’s site (http://www.religioustolerance.org). In actuality, it turns out there nothing in the bible against gay/lesbian/bi people, and where JC meets same sex couples living together, he actually blesses them. The bible isn’t anti-g/l/b, the people who "interpret" it are; the ones who claim to be "Christian" and anti-g/l/b, the Foul-wells of this world, are illeducated bigots, while the educated religious types aren’t bigots.

Tom Harpur is reasonable Christian. He is not dogmatic. He does not condemn others for holding differing opinions. He is not an inerrantist. As I said at the head of my essay on why we should combat Christianity: "When I say "combat Christianity" I primarily mean combat the narrow-mindedness, intolerance and cruelty done in the name of Christ. But I also mean, combat the magic and superstition. I don’t mean combat the philosophy. My complaint is not with Christ, it is with his intolerant followers."

Remember, the bible was spoken by people in Aramaic, then translated by people into Classical Greek, translated into Latin by people, then translated by people into English. Of the three times it was translated, twice it was done by people with agendas and motivations (the catholic church, an English king).

Yet fundamatalists claim the process of editing and translating was all magically under God’s direction too, therefore all the results are infallible as well.

Did you know the Aramaic word for "camel" is the same word for "thread" or "rope"? The line about "a camel will pass through the eye of a needle before a wealthy man can enter heaven" takes on a whole new meaning.

(I’m not trying to change your opinion, but don’t consider everyone your enemy, there actually are some people on side in this debate.)

The Bible is hate literature. It calls for putting us to death for no other reason that we love each other or may be effeminate.

One of the paradoxes of this issue is that the Old Testament is where the really nasty anti-gay material comes from. Yet the Jews, who use only the Old Testament, seem far more willing to live and let live than the Christians who supposedly are tempered by the more tolerant New Testament.

The bible says nothing of the sort (see above paragraphs). Hell, the word "homosexual" didn’t exist until the 19th century, and the three gay couples in the bible (Naomi & Ruth, and two others I forget) are positively described. The problem is the King James (per)Version, not the book itself. (The Revised American Standard bible, a direct translation from Classical Greek, is said to be a better version.)

Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Granted modern Christians ignore all the surrounding "abomination" stuff in Leviticus, but line has been thrown in my face over and over.

As a final caveat just so you know where I stand, I’m still undecided if god exists, but JC did exist; JC = Socrates = Mohammed = Buddha = Lao Tzu, etc. ("Jesus was just a guy", so said MacLean and MacLean) They’re all the same, just people with good ideas, not magicians.
