Bogus Arguments Against Gay Marriage

Religious bigots oppose marriage equality ostensibly on because gay couples cannot have children. This argument is fallacious on many grounds:

• Many mixed sex couples never have children and never intend to have children. This does not invalidate their marriages.
• Mixed sex couples where the woman is past menopause can marry. They will never have children.
• Women who have had their tubes tied or men with vasectomies can marry. They will never have children.
• Women or men using birth control can marry. They will likely never have children.
• Women or men carrying genetic diseases can marry. They will likely avoid having children.
• Gay people sometimes have children from prior mixed marriages.
• Gay people can adopt.
• Gay people can use surrogate parents male or female.
