Here is an email I received in response to one of my essays.
Your table showing all the problems with the Bible is so inaccurate as to be useless. I checked many of the verses you listed and found that your deductions must be your opinion only because they don’t agree with the verses.
Though I quoted the Bible Study Guide, I did not compose it. Of course, I must take responsibility for any errors in it. There are two tables, the oopsies which points out inconsistencies and the Bible Study Guide that points out key, unexpected, picturesque, bizarre or humourous parts of the Bible. I think you have the function of these two tables confused.
The reason you can’t see God’s Word is given below:
What evidence do you have that I hate my brother? With my website, I am trying to free him from deliberately blinding himself. Let us assume you are correct and Satan has blinded me to seeing God. What has that to do with Biblical inconsistency? Why are you blind to seeing it? If anything, your claim amounts to God has blinded you to seeing them, hardly something to brag about.
Examples of problem with your point of view:
Genesis 32:25 — God grabs Jacob’s testicles in a wrestling match. In three different translations the verse says,
Where do get testicles from hip socket?
Touché, I have corrected that entry.
Genesis 39:7-14 — You say woman tries to rape man. The verses say that she wanted to make love to him and he refused. Then she got him put in prison for it.
She did not just ask. She ripped of part of this clothes. See Genesis 39:12. Men have been convicted of rape for far less. Lighten up a bit. This is a Bible study guide to encourage people to look at some of the obscure and amusing parts of the Bible. You can always click and read the original to decide for yourself how well the teaser fits.
Isaiah 45:7 — God admits creating evil.
Doesn’t it follow that since God created the Universe and evil is in the Universe that God allows it. God gave you and me freedom of will. Otherwise, we just be naked apes to use an old phrase. If we were naked apes then we wouldn’t be having this exercise of freedom of speech because there wouldn’t be any.
If we choose to do evil then God lets us. If we keep doing evil then we will face punishment for it after this earth bound life.
I don’t think the language could be plainer. God says he directly creates evil in that verse. "I form the light and create darkness: I make peace and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." This conflicts with the popular view that God is incapable of creating evil. The context makes no mention of freedom of will.
Matthew 1:18 — Mary impregnated by the Holy Ghost. Since God created the Universe why couldn’t He impregnate Mary with the greatest of ease?
Agreed. However, if my daughter tried to feed me such an outlandish story of how she got pregnant, I don’t think anyone would believe her. Why do we give Mary such extreme benefit of the doubt when there is such an everyday explanation for her pregnancy?
John 12:25 — Love life? You die. Hate life? Live forever. The complete verse is as follows: The one who loves his life loses it and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it to everlasting life.
The qualifier you missed is in this world. Loving life only while in this world is what Christ says will lose your eternal life in Heaven. We are to hate this earthly existence in favor of our coming Heavenly existence. Eternity is infinitely longer than the few years we have in this life. Since Christians acknowledge their spiritual life they look to life after this world has passed away.
Love life? You die. Hate life? Live forever. still sounds like a reasonable summary of the dilemma the Christian God places humanity in.
In summary you only see the Old and the New Testaments through the eyes of this world and are spiritually dead at this time in your life. Until you acknowledge your utter dependence on the Father (God), the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Ghost you will always be blind to the Truth of the Bible.
I pray you do not want to live the rest of your days as a Blind man leading the blind.
You seem to be telling me that to gain spiritual sight I must learn to lie to myself and pretend not to see the falsehood and wickedness in parts of the Bible. No thanks. Truth is more important. I can’t believe the Real God would demand that. Only a phony God would demand blind faith. The Real God would not be afraid of disciples with eyes wide open.
