5G (5th Generation) cellphone protocols. It describes how cellphone communications with the towers will change to make more efficient use of the bandwidth and to get higher transmission rates. Each tower acts much like an Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) sending digital IP-based Internet packets to the cellphones. It will be able to handle 1000 times more traffic. It will stream 10 times faster. It is not available yet, perhaps in 5 years. It is designed to support more traffic and more devices in the same area. It uses smaller more frequently spaced towers. Each tower has many more antennas. Instead of broadcasting signals everywhere, they are directed to the device. They broadcast send and receive sharing the same frequency.
