glue : Computer Hardware Buyers’ Glossary

By glue, I mean the sticky stuff you use to bond things together, not the electronic metaphor. If you want to glue slippery polyethylene, almost nothing works. Try LePage All Plastics Super Glue sold as Loctite in the USA. It is a type of cyanoacrylate adhesive. Don’t confuse it with glues designed for flexible plastics.

Electronics projects often use a glue gun because the parts don’t have to be held in place for a long time as the glue dries.

Epoxy is a general good bet if you can ensure the parts are not jostled as the bond cures. Super glue (aka Krazy glue, aka cyanoacrylic glue), does not keep well. You pretty well have to buy a new supply every few months. It is fairly picky about what surfaces it will bond. Epoxy putty does not work at all. The Loctite company in the USA makes a bewildering array of glues. Somebody should write them an Applet or Servlet to help customers quickly find the best glues for the given job.

In electronics, solder is used as a sort of conductive glue. You must electronics solder without acid flux.
