Trump Comedy

Trump once appeared a Catholic charity dinner where Trump and Hillary Clinton where supposed to roast each other and make self-deprecating jokes. Nothing Trump said was remotely funny or self-deprecating. It was as if he had never seen a roast before. He just uttered serious and vicious criticism as if he were in a debate. I thought, surely he has comedy writers to help him along. But he apparently ignored their advice and chose to act like a boor. Why? Was he unable to check his hatred for Mrs. Clinton, even for a hour?
