Preparing for Extinction

The odds of life on earth going extinct in the near future are almost certain. Why?

• Fossil fuel corporations have used the Citizens United decision to buy the majority of American politicians to pretend that climate change is a hoax. Via Trump and Pruit, the policy is to maximise the burning of fossil fuels, especially coal. This will greatly accelerate the emission of greenhouse gases and the resulting climate change. In addition all regulations to rein in pollution are being canceled.
• Since 1991, the world has been working to reduce the number of nuclear weapons. Every extra weapon is one that could be stolen by terrorists, triggered accidentally or triggered by rogue personnel. Trump says he wants to completely undo that work, then triple the spending on nuclear weapons, greatly increasing the odds of a nuclear explosion which would likely lead to mass extinction by world war.
• We allow the earth’s population to keep growing even though we are well aware our planet is finite and cannot even support the current population. There is almost no land left for non-human species. We are over-fishing so heavily that all food fish will be extinct by 2048. Species are going extinct 1000 times faster than normal.

To stop the madman Trump would require drastic action, e.g. impeachment, assassination or insurrection. However, nobody takes Trump as a threat seriously enough to warrant such action. They prefer to indulge in wishful thinking. I can’t see how the world could survive the Trump presidency without mass extinction. We are a terminally stupid, optimistic species.

Imagine if an asteroid were headed for earth with even a 10% chance of colliding. We would not just ignore it. Trump has far larger than 10% odds of wiping out the planet. We are suicidal to ignore the danger.
