There were many earlier religions that did not catch on as well as Christianity. They had the following in common:
- The founder was born on December 25.
- There was a star in the east announcing the birth.
- Three kings came to visit.
- The founder was born of a virgin.
- The founder was resurrected.
- The founder had 12 disciples.
