Life As Video Game
If you play a video game, you temporarily set aside reality and pretend that some arbitrary task such as killing virtual creatures, corralling gerbils etc. is very important. You derive pleasure from progress on this goal and frustration when you fail. Life is more like a video game than you think. You choose what to consider important. At different times in your life, you will focus on different goals. It can sometimes help when you are feeling frustrated, to sit back and notice that the current goal was not always quite so important to you and that it will most certainly not be quite so important at some time in future. There are many other possible goals, most likely, much more important in the grand scheme of things, than what you are blocked on now. If you must beat yourself up with frustration, make sure you do it for some goal that truly matters. Beware the life game salesmen, trying to sell you on their lame life games, like Greed, Christianity, Vanity, Fame…
