The CurrCon Java Applet displays prices on this web page converted with today’s exchange rates into your local international currency, e.g. Euros, US dollars, Canadian dollars, British Pounds, Indian Rupees… CurrCon requires an up-to-date browser and Java version 1.8, preferably 1.8.0_131. If you can’t see the prices in your local currency, Troubleshoot. Use Firefox for best results.

Disclaimer

This essay does not describe an existing computer program, just one that should exist. This essay is about a suggested student project in Java programming. This essay gives a rough overview of how it might work. I have no source, object, specifications, file layouts or anything else useful to implementing this project. Everything I have prepared to help you is right here.

This project outline is not like the artificial, tidy little problems you are spoon-fed in school, when all the facts you need are included, nothing extraneous is mentioned, the answer is fully specified, along with hints to nudge you toward a single expected canonical solution. This project is much more like the real world of messy problems where it is up to you to fully the define the end point, or a series of ever more difficult versions of this project and research the information yourself to solve them.

Everything I have to say to help you with this project is written below. I am not prepared to help you implement it; or give you any additional materials. I have too many other projects of my own.

Though I am a programmer by profession, I don’t do people’s homework for them. That just robs them of an education.

You have my full permission to implement this project in any way you please and to keep all the profits from your endeavour.

Please do not email me about this project without reading the disclaimer above.

Services To Submit Your Website to Multiple Search Engines

You can submit your website to be included in multiple search engines via services such as: They will submit your home page to a number of search engines for incorporation. They may charge $40.00 USD or more for the service. You might create a free version that runs as a Java application so people can do the work themselves. Basically it simulates a browser and goes from search engine to search engine filling in forms. If anyone is interested, I have some sample code that fills in a form and submits it. The main work is finding all the search engines, researching the forms and making sure the program does not submit an obsolete form. You need to maintain the program any time a form changes. A clever version may analyse generic forms and figure out how to fill them in based an its knowledge of individual fields. That way all you have to do is add code for new field types. The program automatically responds to changes in field order, or removal addition of fields. Some search engines are quite simple to submit to. For complicated search engines that require categories, such as Yahoo and Dmoz, you could generate a web page and then use that web page to give a jet assist to the manual registration process. See my list.

I have put this project on low priority. The NeedHits people are charging only $1.85 USD to use their submitter engine. At those prices a free tool has trouble competing!
