net neutrality

As your packets wend their way over the Internet to their destination, all are given equal priority. Large corporations want to give packets from small websites low priority. They want to lower the priority of packets from their competitors. Net neutrality means keeping things the way they are now, where all packets are treated equally.

In the USA, Trump has changed the rules. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) can decide which sites you have access to. They can block porn sites for example. They can make you pay extra for video, news, social media, foreign sites, controversial sites… Large sites that pay extra get priority over smaller sites. They can control which search engine you use.
