• Defragging with special handling for SSDs (Solid State Disks).
• Tweaking system parameters to fine tune performance.
• Detecting and replacing out of date drivers.
• Registry cleaner: remove obsolete junk from the registry.

The Pitstop people seem particularly interested in the most virulent malware — ransomware. This is one of the reasons I will be buying it to replace Microsoft Defender as my virus software.

The Pitstop people who make PC Matic put out an electronic newsletter that is full of useful technical information. The program is quite paternalistic. It insists on repairing every problem it finds. It gives you no ability to override. It gives you no technical details on the problems it finds, just a few words. It is designed to be used by non-technical users.
