PortableApps : Java Glossary

A suite of Windows applications designed to be portable on a flash drive so you can take the app and all your data and settings with you from machine to machine without having to install/uninstall them. This also means backup restore is much simpler. Apps include:

• Firefox browser
• Thunderbird email
• Sunbird calendar/tasks
• ClamWin antivirus
• Pidgin instant messaging
• Sumatra PDF (Portable Document Format) reader
• KeePass Password Safe password manager
• OpenOffice office suite

Normal Apps have to be reinstalled from scratch if any thing goes wrong with the registry. These have all the configuration information stored in ordinary files on the cloud or flash drive. C/C++ and Java PortableApps exist. They can include fonts you don’t have to install on the hosting computer.
