But What About Saddam?

Nobody argues that Saddam was a nice guy. Everyone agrees it is a Good Thing™ he is no longer in power. The question is, was the Iraq war the right way to go about getting rid of him? Republicans argue that if Bush had not lied about the WMDs (Weapon of Mass Destructions) and invaded, Saddam would still be in power. Wouldn’t that be a terrible thing?

First of all I don’t believe for one second that a Republican would sacrifice even a dime to help an Iraqi, much less $300 billion. They are quite happy to see 60,000 Iraqi children killed by accident. Who are they trying to kid they fought this war to help the Iraqis?

Next, the USA signed a treaty promising that it would not meddle in the internal affairs of other nations. That was the UN (United Nations) Charter. Much as you might like to take Saddam out, doing so unilaterally is illegal.

The invasion and occupation of Iraq is illegal.
~ Kofi Annan (1938-04-08 age:80)Secretary General and Boutros Boutros-Ghali (1922-11-14 2016-02-16 age:93) former Secretary General of the U.N.
I think in this case international law stood in the way of doing the right thing.
~ Richard Perle (1941-09-16 age:76), 2003-11-20, Pentagon hawk, cat-stroking, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, James Bond villain pasty lookalike, admitting the Iraq war is illegal.
Even neocon Richard Perle admitted the war was illegal. You must get U.N. approval, as Bush 41 did for the Gulf War.

Next, the war was not about Saddam. If it were, why did it not stop when he was captured? Saddam was captured on 2003-12-13 ( 14 years and 4 months ago). Most of the killing was done long after he was out of the picture. Saddam was hanged 2006-12-30 (11 years and 4 months ago) and still the slaughter continues.

Finally, Bush had the chance got take Saddam out without a war and Bush turned it down. Saddam tried to surrender, offering to hand over all of Iraq’s oil, offering to have elections supervised by the UN, and offering to allow an invasion force to search for WMDs wherever it wanted. Bush turned him down. Bush wanted a war for reasons nothing to do with getting rid of Saddam. He wanted to display some Shock and Awe.

We’ve wanted so many wars and we didn’t get them. And we’ve wanted this one for years.
~ George W. Bush (1946-07-06 age:71)

I repeat. Saddam is gone. Why are Americans still killing kids in Iraq? How did killing any kids help capture him? This war is not about Saddam. It is about sadism.
