Here is an email I received in response to one of my essays.
Clearly, the 13-year-old believes in Jesus Christ and you were trying to pull the child away from the Lord. Heed the warning of Christ:
"But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." Matthew 18:6
You act as if I were trying to take this child’s virginity. I merely hinted the kid was smugly parroting his/parents rather than thinking it through by telling a story about myself. Further, there is a strong distinction between pulling a child away from the Lord and opening eyes of a child to the lies and evils of what passes for modern Christianity. Christianity is almost as destructive to the mind as drugs. I am not about to see a child destroy himself without at least issuing a warning.
I know you’ve had a rough life, but taking it out on Christians — to the point of thinking it’s okay to take their children (in spirit, if not in body) away from them because they don’t share your beliefs — indicates you must have an ego of Hitleresque proportions.
I don’t think you realise what an evil fundamentalist Christianity is. It is roughly on par with racism in terms of the amount of needless suffering it creates in the world. Christians go out of their way to make life miserable for gay people. They spew such hatred that many people get the weird notion we gays are fair game for torture and murder. Even into the 60’s, claiming the victim was gay was sufficient to get off a murder charge. Usually gay bashings were not reported to avoid bringing on further trouble. The Fundamentalists are sisters to the KKK (Klu Klux Klan). Not all KKK members beat up blacks, but they spread the self-righteous hatred that eggs others on to do so. Surely I should be permitted to at least question the notion that Christianity is the one and only perfect religion! Perhaps you are not familiar with the constitutional guarantees of freedom of religion and freedom of speech. These don’t just protect the Christian religion. They protect those opposed to any given religion as well. You want a theocracy where only ideas you personally approve of are exposed to the young. If I am Hitler, then you must be the Ayatolah.
I’m glad you don’t have the charisma or political power to put your policies into effect. The fact is, there’s nothing in your entire website that has not been thrown into the area of ideas hundreds or even thousands of years ago. All your arguments have been proposed — and have failed — many times before. It’s the same old arguments and they last only as long as it takes for the next genius to come along and propose them.
By this I assume you mean people from day one have noticed the inaccuracies and inconsistencies of the Bible and from day one, Christians have buried their heads in the sand like ostriches and pretended they did not exist, claiming their blindness to ordinary reality gave them special superiority. It is a lie that God composed the Christian Bible. It was done by well-meaning men who hoped good would come from their stories. All Christians have to offer is repeated assertion to back up their outlandish claims, not a shred of evidence.
Yet, the Bible has remained as strong as ever — and the simple words of a carpenter 2000 years ago still blow away all petty attacks from people as yourself.
Wishful thinking. Even I wish the promises of the Bible were true, but they simply are not. If they were, it would be wonderful. That is why people hold out hope their prayers will be answered even though they know no one whose prayer ever was. The Bible is full of beautiful lies.
Why not put your hatred — and your sizable ego — aside long enough to open your heart? The worst thing that can happen is that you will start to love your neighbor — and the best thing can be that you will never have to feel alone again. You can still fight for those oppressed by fundamentalists gone wild — and do so from the vantage point of standing beside the Lord. That’s what He wants. That’s what He’s waiting for. He wants you to come home. He’s holding out His hand to you. Take it.
Part of loving your neighbour is protecting them from bullies. Part of loving your neighbour is exposing hurtful lies. I think the fundamentalists have wandered off the track that God would have them follow. See my essay on combating Kristianity for details. Christianity has become a force for evil in the world, despite how it may have started out. To me, getting rid of Christianity is a bit like treating mass schizophrenia. There is no need for hate for those afflicted, just a horror at what the untreated people are doing. Nearly everyone who contracted it got it before they were old enough to fight it off with reason. They can’t be blamed. Had I been born in such a household, I too would be debating from the other side of this issue.
