Oopsies

Katie Ryan : jesusrocks02@yahoo.com: 2001-09-08

Hi, my name is Katie and I’m 17 years old. I read your oopsies section and was confused about what it said. I read what you believed were contradictions, but I looked them up, and couldn’t see the contridiction. For example, dealing w/Paul in the book of Acts. I quote: 54.Paul’s attendants heard the miraculous voice Acts 9:7 Paul’s attendants hear nothing Acts 22:9 If you look up the verses, Acts 9:7 says, "The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone." Acts 22:9 says, "My companions saw the light, but they did not understand the voice of him who was speaking to me."

If you can show me the contradiction between the two, that would be great. I just don’t see it. Acts 9:7 says they heard a sound, but didn’t see anyone. Acts 22:9 Doesn’t say that they didn’t hear anything. They didn’t understand it--no contadiction here. There are no contradictions in the Bible.

I’ve taken that one out. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

In the book, A Ready Defence by Josh McDowell Dr. Clark states that "There exists no document from the ancient world witnessed by so excellent a set of textual and historical data on which an intelligent decision may be made. An honest [person] cannot dismiss a source of this kind. Skepticism regarding the historical credentials of Christianity is based upon an irrational [i.e. antisupernatural] bias." (p55) I would love to hear from you.

I don’t think anyone argues that the Bible wasn’t right up there with the best of the books from the ancient world, if not the best. The God of the Old Testament has transformed into a much more loving compassionate God. Jesus could only hint how gentle and kind because the people of his day simply would not believe him if he told the whole truth. Don’t confuse the credentials of Christianity with the obsolete myths of the Old Testament. These are what the scientists are fighting, not God. If you checked up on what scientists are doing, they are making it easier than ever before to know God. Have a look at this essay for a starting point.
