Logistics

Driving directions from ferry dock in Snug Cove: Address: 1806 Howe Road Phone: 604-947-9394 Also, if you want to come by boat, I can arrange for you to tie up in Smugglers Cove just below my house. And yes, you can swim in the cove. If you are coming from afar and want to stay overnight, let me know. I have quite a bit of empty space this year, as my downstairs tenant has moved out and new housemates don’t arrive until late August. Once we know how many are coming, we can figure out who can bring what. Hope to see you soon... Heather The first ferry after lunch (BC Ferries still takes a long lunch break) is at 2:30 from Horseshoe Bay. You can park or bus to Horseshoe Bay and walk on if you like. Also, people coming from Vancouver Island can walk on to the Nanaimo ferry and then to Bowen. Once we know who is coming, we can let people know who is driving or walking so you can arrange for rides to my place. It would help to know who is planning to come by ferry, and if any coming that way are driving, so you could look for each other and get a ride. If you are coming from Vancouver Island and want to take an earlier ferry (the previous one is at 12 noon), let me know. It’s fine to walk on; if you don’t see each other, call me when you arrive (number above) and I or someone else will come to pick you up. If you are coming (or thinking of coming) from Vancouver Island, you can walk on the ferry from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay, and then walk on the ferry to Bowen.

Also, if you want to come by boat, I can arrange for you to tie up in Smugglers Cove just below my house. And yes, you can swim in the cove.

Driving Instructions

Driving directions: From Snug Cove, go up the main road from the ferry, turn right on Miller Road, then left on Scarborough, which becomes Eagle Cliff. Bear left when you see a sign to Hood Point. Stay on this road past the playing field and tennis courts. Bear left on Hood Point Road and then Smugglers Cove Road (these are really all part of the only through road on this part of the island). Turn right on Howe Road — my place is the first house on the left. Just avoid any roads that are marked “dead end” and you’ll get there!

What to bring

Swim suit and towel — Smugglers’ Cove is very sheltered, faces west so gets great late afternoon sun, and even has a partly sandy beach as well as dock.

Food, drink

Please let us know what you want to bring so we can co-ordinate.

Hi Heather, Roedy - Just checked times for reunion & doesn’t look like I can make it - thought it was Sunday, which would have worked very well as I am teaching in Vancouver from Wednesday til Saturday Night. Was thinking I would be able to stay at my son’s, who also lives on Bowen. Let me know if there might be any stragglers kicking around and may be I can meet for coffee Sunday A.M. - give my love to all - hopefully next time. (By the way, reading the list of fellow high achievers, noted all the Doctorates - might as well add the Doc in front of me too, for future ref. (Ed.D., Counselling Psych, 1992) Hope you guys both well - Happy 60th - Had mine on July 9, still quaking in my boots - at least the sun is shining. Love, Scott
