autoexec.bat was file automatically executed on boot in DOS, W3.1, OS2, W95, W98 and Me but not supported in NT, W2K, XP, W2003, Vista, W2008, W7-32, W7-64, W8-32, W8-64, W2012, W10-32 and W10-64.
To replace it, NT, W2K, XP, W2003, Vista, W2008, W7-32, W7-64, W8-32, W8-64, W2012, W10-32 and W10-64 has a similar concept called a login script.
In the DOS (Disk Operating System) days, DOS would automatically load the drivers in CONFIG.SYS then run the commands in AUTOEXEC.BAT just after it booted. In Windows, in %windir%\system32 the CONFIG.NT and AUTOEXEC.NT will be invoked any time a DOS command prompt box is opened, i.e. many times after boot.
To get the same effect in Windows itself, just add a BAT (Batch) or BTM shortcut to the Startup folder under all programs on the menu or to "C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\"
