autoexec.bat was file automatically executed on boot in DOS W3.1 OS2 W95 W98 Me but not supported in NT W2K XP W2003 Vista W2008 W7-32 W7-64 W8-32 W8-64.
To replace it, NT W2K XP W2003 Vista W2008 W7-32 W7-64 W8-32 W8-64 has a similar concept called a login script.
In the DOS (Disk Operating System) days, DOS would automatically load the drivers in CONFIG.SYS then run the commands in AUTOEXEC.BAT just after it booted. In Windows, in %windir%\system32 the CONFIG.NT and AUTOEXEC.NT will be invoked any time a DOS command prompt box is opened, i.e. many times after boot.
To get the same effect in Windows itself, just add a BAT (Batch) or BTM shortcut to the Startup folder under all programs on the menu or to C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
