FAT: File Allocation Table. A brain-damaged way of storing data on a hard disk used by W95/W98/Me and optionally in NT/W2K/XP/W2K3/Vista It was originally designed for single-sided low-density floppy diskettes. It has been replaced by NTFS in Windows NT/W2K/XP/W2K3/Vista
