OLPC

OLPC (One Laptop Per Child). Nicholas Negroponte’s project to get an Internet-connected laptop in the hands of every child on the planet. The goal it to get the cost of the laptop below $75.00 USD and 1 watt. As of 2012-11-14 that have placed 2.5 million laptops.

More and more universities and governments are putting textbooks and lectures online for free use by everyone in the world. The project is already bearing fruit. Some Ethiopian children given OLPC computers and no instruction managed to teach themselves English and hack the operating system.
