Here is an email I received in response to one of my essays.

I began researching the Canadian seal hunt because a friend of mine explained to me how brutal it was. I read the information on your site after I found it from a Google search. I was very disturbed by what I read regarding t he seal hunt and then I got to the point where you compare it to Dick Cheney drunkenly shooting hundreds of fowl, Bush putting firecrackers up the asses of frogs, raping and napalming Iraqi children, etc… And you lost ALL credibility.

Yes, if you base your evaluation purely on gut reaction, of course. But if you actually do some research, you will find these statements are true. Search Google in the reputable sites. Search for terms like Judge Hellerstein and court martial You can also read the books I recommend in each essay. You can also click the links near where I makes such startling statements to take you directly to the backup. For example, on that bizarre frog story I offered nine sources of the story you could have clicked. I quote from my essay on Bush’s sexual perversion.

Bush started his S&M (Sadism & Masochism) career torturing frogs both by shooting them and inserting firecrackers into them and blowing them up. His friend Bill Frist collected puppies and kittens, pretending to want to adopt them. He sold them for vivisection experiments. source source You are a typical liberal and push your ultra leftist agenda.

Your site is full of liberal propaganda. The typical mankind is destroying nature and the earth bullcrap.

I did not occur that was in the least controversial. Even noted liberals like George Bush, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill O’Reilly and Stephen Harper agree that global warming is a problem.

How could you possibly not know that thousands of species are going extinct because of human encroachment on their habitat, a fact mentioned in almost every nature documentary?

I didn’t read much further, but I’m sure you’re completely sold on global warming ca used by us evil humans and we should all just go back to living like humans did 500 years ago so we could save the planet.

It is rather silly to write reviews of essays you have not yet read. Far from calling for hair shirts, I call for advanced technology to let us live in comfort without harming the environment and milking every drop utility from the energy we use. You might want to read my essay on global warming and my collection of essays on the environment before you comment further on what you think I have to say.

10,000 years ago much of North America was covered in ice. It was called the Ice Age, maybe you heard of it. And eventually, overtime, the ice melted and receded hundreds of miles. My question to you is, what caused it? If humans weren’t there to create the greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide that liberals claim is the source of our global warming, ho was the earth able to warm up on its own. Is it not possible, or probable, that the same natural dynamics that ended the Ice Age are what is causing the current climate change? Another question… Who is to say what the ideal temperature is? The earths temperature has varied 10 degrees colder and warmer from where we are today. Isn’t it obvious that climate change is a natural occurence? It is to me. It just doesn’t fit into your neat little plan.

You have a second grader’s understanding of science and you want me to trust your bathtub speculations over thousands of PhDs who have used the planet’s largest computers to crunch actual data. Get serious! If you truly want to understand the paradoxes, do some reading in the scientific literature rather than listening to right wing airheads. There are only a tiny handful of scientists who now dispute global warming. All but a couple are not even climate scientists and all of the skeptics are in the pay of the coal and oil industry. Their backers have a vested short term finanical interest in spreading FUD (Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) such as yours about global warming. Just google their names to discover their shameful lack of qualifications and suspect income sources.

But the short answer to your question is climate is a result of extremely complex interactions between solar radiation, atmospheric chemistry, albedo, ocean currents, the activities of plants and animals, long astronomical cycles that pass the solar system periodically through dusty parts of the galaxy. All of these combine to create the climate. Some of these we have control over. Some we don’t. However, man’s activities are now sufficiently global in scale in terms of changing albedo, deforestation and changing the composition of the atmosphere to create catastrophically rapid climate changes.

There a logic flaw in your thinking. You are saying that because nature on its own has in past created bizarre climate, means man’s tinkering can’t. That is like saying because tornadoes destroy houses, it is impossible for man to blow them up too.

Winston Churchill siad it best. if you’re 20 years old and not a liberal, you don’t have a heart. If your 40 years old and not a conservative, you don’t have a brain. Liberalism is based on feelings.

Conservatism is based on logic.

That may have been true in Churchill’s case, but not yours. You offerered not a single fact to refute anything I had to say, just bombast and vague broadsides.

It’s probable that the real truth about the Canadian seal hunt are closer to the D.F.O. (Department of Fisheries and Oceans) version of facts than your own. You complain that they have little evidence to support their claims. Where is your evidence to support your own?

For one, I consider Paul Watson a personal friend who has seen the hunt up close and was almost murdered by the seal hunters. I have seen the photos and videos. Newspaper accounts admit the weapon of choice is the club, not the rifle and that seals are skinned alive. The sealers dishonestly excuse their cruelty on the basis the seals are not endangered. The sealers have a tradition of brutality toward seals based on their mistaken beliefs the seals are 100% to blame for reduced fish stocks. When someone tries to pull one over on me like that, they lose credibility. On what do you base your assessment? If the pattern holds, I suspect ideology.
