Canadian Queer Webring Home

The Canadian Queer Ring links together websites that are proud to be Canadian and proud to be Queer. If you’re Queer and Canadian you’ll want to join this Ring! If you’re not familiar with the concept of Rings, check out the WebRing.com or my essay on webrings.

This ring is open to all groups, organizations, services, directories, businesses, and individuals who are queer and Canadian. The ring showplaces the incredible variety in Canadian gay Life. The most important thing is to be honest about who you are.
Pages promoting hatred, homophobia, racism or any other form of intolerance are not welcome. Pages should show respect for yourself, for the gay community and for the community at large.
Your site should at least be viewable without ActiveX. ActiveX is too big a security risk to turn on generally. You might still use this tool to enhance your site, but visitors without it enabled should at least see something.
Place your nav bar on the page most closely related to the webring topic, or on a page reserved for all your webrings. The URL you register at WebRing.com must be the exact page where your navbar is. If you put navbar somewhere else, the automated link-checking software won’t be able to find it and WebRing.com will automatically suspend your membership in the ring.
Please validate the HTML on your website to make sure it contains no errors. Otherwise people who use a browser different from yours may not be able to see the fruits of your work. I suggest using a validator called HTMLValidator. Click to

Please check that your own website works with all of these up-to-date-browsers:
	Firefox	12.0	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE (Java Runtime Environment). Its support of Java is erratic. Most widely supported next to IE. Many add-ins. Very fast rendering. Weak on table rendering. Best for printing.
	SeaMonkey	2.9.1	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE. Similar to Firefox, with integrated Email.
	Opera	11.64	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE. Cannot handle JavaScript Google AdSense ads. Buggy JavaScript generally. Otherwise fast and light. Accurate CSS. Often hangs when you exit.
	Google Chrome	19.0.1084.46	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE. Frequently updated. Has no edit source button. Fast starting. Flaky supports of Applets and Java Web Start. Poor downloading. Handles foreign language sites particularly well.
	Safari	5.1.5	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE. For both Macs and PCs. Some rendering problems. Simple and stripped down.
	IE9	9.0.8112,16421	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE. Not recommended. This browser is hopeless at Java, especially the 64-bit version. Some websites will work with no other browser.
	IE8	8.0.7601.17514	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE. Out of spite, blocks Java unless you OK. It has many bugs and crashes frequently. Renders column classes correctly.
	IE7	7.0.6000	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE. It is pain to get Java Web Start working.
	IE6	6.0.2800	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE. Not secure.
	Avant	2012:171	with the Java 1.7.0_04 JRE. It is a fast browser, especially at starting up. Has problems with JavaScript. Excellent at rendering and printing tables. It uses the Firefox rendering engine. Handles Applets, but has trouble with Java Web Start.
	Oracle’s Java	1.7.0_04	JRE

It costs nothing to belong to the ring. No ads will appear on your webpages.
As ringmaster, I make the final decision on who gets in. The main reasons sites don’t get on the ring are:
1. problems installing the nav bar.
2. lack of a Canadian angle.
3. website still under construction.
4. HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) that works only on one browser.
5. People don’t have a website already.
