queer: The politically correct term in vogue in the year 2000 for homosexual. In the previous century, it was a derogatory term. Gay activists have taken the word and have reasonably successfully made it respectable. The term is more popular with lesbians and young homosexual men. Older homosexual men usually use the term "gay". An earlier similar attempt to shine up the image of the word "faggot" failed.
