Superman : Gay & Black Glossary

Superman
Superman can be taken as a metaphor for what it like to be gay. Clark Kent has to camouflage his flamboyant self behind glasses and a sexless gray exterior. He is in constant fear of his true identity being uncovered. In the Smallville series, the young Lex Luthor has a fascination with Clark, and a love for him, that far exceeds that toward any female whom he treats as objects. Lex could well have repressed homosexual desire for Clark.

In an episode where Clark comes out to his friend Pete, the dialog word for word could be from a guy man coming out to a friend. Clark says “I have tried my whole life just to blend in.” Later he says “I am the same person I was before you knew. Nothing has changed.”
