A class of browser add-ons that help you download files. Some of the things they might do include:

• Let you enqueue files for later downloading.
• Let you play audio or video as they download.
• Automatically restart failed downloads from where they left off.
• Employ some tricks to accelerate the download.
• Let you limit the CPU (Central Processing Unit) resources used by the download.
• Keep track of what you have downloaded, what it was, where it came from, when you got it.
• Unzip the downloaded files.
• Check the MD5 (Message Digest algorithm 5) digests to make sure the file were downloaded withdout errors.
• Ensure you do/do not overwrite a previous download of the same name.
• Logon as needed to pick up the various files.
• Handle a variety of download protocols such as BitTorrent and FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
