DSA : Java Glossary


DSA (Digital Signature Algorithm). A type of code-signing certificate used in Java 1.2+. It replaces the older RSA (Rivest, Shamir and Adelman) certificate used in the proprietary Netscape jar-signing scheme. DSA-signed Applets refer to the Sun Java version 1.2 jar signing scheme. Sun-style RSA-signed Applets were introduced Java version 1.3 and have now largely replaced the DSA scheme. I still use them because Wassup is signed and can run under Java version 1.2.
