A Microsoft utility that lets you do several things to tweak the way the
NTFS (New Technology File System) file system works:
increase or decrease the size of the MFT (Master File Table).
Turn on or off last-access date maintaining on files. Off gives higher performance. On lets
you track when files were last read. This can be useful if you sort by last access
date during defragging.
Turn on or off support for 8.3 short filenames. Turning it off would shrink the
directories. You would have to experiment to see if it improved or hurt
performance and if any programs would stop working.
