To convert Microsoft Window *.wav files to *.au format you need some sort of utility such as the shareware Goldwave.
The Gold Wave installer is quite confusing. To install into F:\Program Files\GoldWave, first manually create directory F:\Program Files\GoldWave before you start the install. Then in the installer, navigate to F:\Program Files then type GoldWave into the Program Folder box.
You might have a little trouble finding the play
button
.
It is on the separate Control Panel off to the right.
The trial version is only mildly hobbled. I own a registered copy.
It handles many file formats including *.aiff, *.au, *.avi, *.flacc, *.mp3, *.mps, *.ogg, *.sds (midi sample), *.snd, *.wav and *.wma, but not real audio or *.midi.
It does many special effects.
To covert a sound file to Sun au format you just open it, save as, picking format Sun au ⇒ Java/Web, μ-Law, 8000 Hz, 64kbps, mono.
The program is created in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.
