Green Card
To work in the United States, you need a Green Card. There are four stages that take five or more years:
  1. apply for US citizenship
  2. accepted
  3. Green Card holder
  4. US Citizen
So, someone with a Green Card, is a legal alien, who is in the process of becoming a US citizen, but not one yet. A Green Card holder has all the rights and privileges a US citizen has, except they can not vote or run for public office.
