MNP Class 4
Here the modems improve on class 3 by adapting the size of the packets exchanged to suit the cleanliness of the line and the burstiness of the traffic. The cleaner the line, the bigger the packets. The protocol efficiency is about 120% on a clean line. A 2400 BPS modem will realise a throughput of about 2900 BPS. Tymnet/BIX uses MNP level 4. MNP-4 is the alternate error correcting protocol in CCITT V.42.
