POD : Java Glossary

POD
POD (Persistent Object Database) or intelligent serialization. A database that stores Java objects and the links between them. It lets you deal with more objects that could fit in virtual memory. It makes objects persistent. They are still there when you power off an on again. It works by serialising them. You may also have transaction processing so that in event of a crash, you can rapidly replay your changes to get your in-ram database back where it was. Transaction processing also lets you back out a set of changes if part way through you decided not to complete. BePers seems to have disappeared.
