Robot
In Java 1.3+, the java.awt.Robot class has little to do with little tin men. It is a class for generating events that simulate keypresses and mouse moves. You could use it to replay mouse motions and keypresses for a demo or to automate GUI code that you cannot modify. It is most commonly used to automate GUI testing. It does not capture manual mouse moves and keystrokes, just generates simulated ones. It can also be used to capture pixels off the screen, even pixels painted by some other application. That does not give you the text, just the graphic image of the text.
