text messaging. Exchanging short text messages with cellphones. The advantage is you can do it surreptiously in class or in a meeting, at a theatrical event or movie. Like email, it allows you to be brief. You are not required to spend time exchanging pleasantries, as with a phone call. Texting makes extremely efficient use of cellphone bandwidth. Logically, texting calls should be free, but often cellphone companies rip customers off charging both sender and receiver each in the order of $0.40 CAD per message.
