zombie: A computer that has been taken over by a criminal without the owner’s knowledge. The criminal may use the zombie to relay spam, or mount DOS (Denial Of Service) attacks. Computers can be made into zombies by email viruses or worms.
A zombie process is a Unix process that has terminated, but whose entry in the process table is kept around in order to provide status information to the parent process.
