alphabet
A set of glyphs used to compose words in a given language. English uses A-Z with lower case variant a-z. Other languages include accented letters. Unicode supports many alphabets with nothing in common with the familiar letters, e.g. Cyrillic, Greek, Hindi, Chinese, Thai, or Ugaritic (cuneiform).

Radio Operator Alphabet

Radio Operators often have to speak over noisy lines. So instead of pronouncing individual letters with the traditional names (aye, bee, cee, dee, ee, eff) that sound too much alike, they use the following pronunciations for the letters:
Alpha Hotel Oscar Victor
Bravo India Papa Whiskey
Charlie Juliet Quebec X-Ray
Delta Kilo Romeo Yankee
Echo Lima Sierra Zulu
Foxtrot Mike Tango
Golf November Uniform
