AOL : Java Glossary

AOL
AOL (America On-Line) predates the Internet. It is a giant IAP (Internet Access Provider) with its own dial up network. It pioneered making computers accessible to the average person. Unfortunately, it has been reluctant to bring its offering in line with modern standards. Most browsers will not work properly with AOL. Many web pages can’t be viewed with the AOL-supplied browser. On the plus side, AOL offers special content to its subscribers. You will sometimes see AOL-versions of webpages on non AOL-sites to deal with these incompatibilities. They have an instant messaging service called AIM (America on-line Instant Messenger).
