Commonly used programs for scheduling appointments include: Such programs allow collaboration by revealing open slots to others. Open calendar programs use the iCalendar format RFC 2445 for interchange.

A feature to look for is a PDA version of the program that can be synched with the desktop version.
One major weakness of such programs is they cannot warn you of a coming appointment unless they are running. They properly should have a tiny component that runs all the time in the background taking up almost no RAM or CPU cycles, or should use OS facilities to wake them up.
