isNumeric

Oddly, there is no built-in isNumeric (String) method, possibly because there are several possible definitions of numeric

A String consisting only of the digits 0-9.
A String that optionally starts with a -, then has only 0-9.
A String that consists only of the characters minus, 0-9, comma and decimal point in Java/locale format.
A String in floating point exponential format.
Any of the above with optional leading/trailing spaces.
